Welcome
Society of Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Presentation Sisters were founded by Nano Nagle, in Cork,
Ireland, in 1775. The foundation made in Rawalpindi (India until 14 August
1947), Pakistan came about because God chose to be a Presentation presence in
the Punjab. Many events conspired to bring the Presentation Sisters to the
Punjab.

who was the Sister who would
bring the Presentation Sisters to Rawalpindi began her religious life in
California USA. She was born in Elphin, County Roscommon, Ireland. Her parents died when she was a child and she
was sent to the care of her uncle in California. There she entered the
Presentation Convent in 1873. She was
the Superior in the convent at Taylor and Ellis Street, San Francisco, from
1884 to 1890. In that year a request
came from a Bishop in Boston for a Presentation Convent to be opened there.
Mother Ignatius was ready to go Boston, but she first set out for Kilcock,
County Kildare, Ireland to use it as a base while she looked for aspirants. In
1879, property was given in Kilcock to set up a novitiate for Presentation
Sisters in California. However, the Boston foundation never materialized; the
Bishop who had invited the Sisters died, and his successor did not want the
foundation.
